Week 6 - Forsyth Methodist Church, Forsyth Georgia

orsyth Methodist Church returned to the Ridge for their 28th summer, bringing with them joy, wisdom, and a community spirit that filled every corner of camp. It was a week where the sounds of music, laughter, and love echoed through the hollers and homes.

One of the most cherished parts of the week was having young children, lovingly referred to as "the littles," working right alongside the rest of the group. They helped plant a garden at the home of our neighbors, Christy and Layla, and even spent a day on camp weeding, clearing trails, and cleaning road gutters. Their laughter and energy brought such a liveliness to the Ridge, and their presence reminded us how all ages can serve meaningfully.

Layla, who is legally blind, left a lasting impression on our staff. Despite her challenges, she pitched in with moving furniture, laying flooring, and cleaning up. When she received a handmade quilt, she hugged each person as tightly as she could and said she would miss us when we left. Her courage and kindness were a beautiful reminder of the power of shared love and presence.

Other neighbors included Wanda, whose home was transformed by a team that painted the interior and stained a large handicap ramp. Wanda was overwhelmed with gratitude, especially after receiving a handmade quilt. She said she could never express how much it meant to her. During that project, a technician stopped by to check her water system and shared that he used to camp out on the Ridge as a kid—proof of how far Glory Ridge’s reach extends.

We also served neighbors Laddie and Phil. Laddie’s stories from her life captivated everyone, while Phil proved to be a great teacher, generously sharing skills and working alongside our group.

Back on camp, the fellowship was rich and joyful. We shared heartfelt morning devotions under the big oak tree and lively evening worship services filled with dancing and song. Communion one evening was especially moving, with the altar beautifully adorned with flowers gathered from all around camp.

Music was abundant and lively, featuring guitars, drums, and even a ukulele. There were tournaments of ultimate frisbee, cornhole, and Kan Jam, plenty of birthday celebrations, and of course, multiple ice cream stops after long workdays—each followed by singing all the way back to camp.

The kitchen team, affectionately named "Special K," prepared meals that were nothing short of amazing. The cheese grits in particular were a breakfast highlight.

Evenings often included visitors joining us for dinner and worship, adding to the feeling of extended community. Staff and youth alike were moved to see the youth open up more each day, forming strong, lasting friendships. Worship was a space of reflection and connection, and one staff member said it best: “It felt more like an advanced Bible study than a devotion.”

One of the most touching moments was witnessing the way Forsyth welcomed young neighbors Blakelynn and Ember into their group. Their inclusion spoke volumes about what it means to be the body of Christ.

From white water rafting adventures and joyful bus rides playing Big Booty, to quiet porch conversations and powerful worship, the week with Forsyth Methodist Church was full of laughter, compassion, and faith in action. We are so grateful for this community and the way they continue to bless the Ridge each and every year.
